Barcelona dropped points in the La Liga title race after being held to a 1-1 draw at home to Atletico Madrid on Wednesday night – and the result was made even more painful after Leo Messi hobbled off injured.
In a tense affair, Ivan Rakitic opened the scoring for Barca at the Nou Camp before Angel Correa equalised for Diego Simeone’s men just after the hour mark, but the biggest worry for the home supporters would’ve been the sight of Messi looking absolutely distraught after sustaining what is thought to be a groin injury.
The reigning Ballon d’Or holder is usually extremely resilient when it comes to injuries, but his sudden stop and his pained expression told its own story:

It’s obviously far too early to put a timescale on how long Messi could be out for, but the Argentine superstar will almost certainly miss the weekend match against Sporting Gijon, and maybe the Champions League clash against Borussia Mönchengladbach next week.
