Danny Willett Says Ryder Cup Showed His Brother Was Right About Americans

Danny Willett insists the Ryder Cup showed his brother was right to criticise the behaviour of American golf fans.

The English golfer competed at his first Ryder Cup over the weekend after a strong season which saw him win the Masters in April.

Given this standout year, you would have expected Willett to go into the event at Hazeltine high on confidence rather than with the pressure of his brother’s comments hanging over him.

Peter Willett wrote a column for ahead of the Ryder Cup kicking off last Friday in which he criticised American fans and called them a “baying mob of imbeciles”.

As you’d expect, that didn’t go down well with US golf supporters – with thousands attending the competition in Minnesota.

But despite the negative reaction which seemed to follow Willett as he failed to pick up any points for Team Europe in their 17-11 loss to Team USA, he backed up his brothers comments last night:

It’s a surprise to see Willett back his brother considering the unnecessary distraction it appeared to cause for him during the three days of golf.

Willett played in three matches and a zero points return will be very disappointing for the ninth highest ranked golfer in the world.

His 5&4 loss to Brooks Koepka was the worst defeat of all singles games yesterday so to even mention the behaviour of the partisan US crowd is very surprising.
