The age-old theory about whether or not the five-time Ballon d’Or winner could recreate his weekly heroics at the Britannia Stadium has been in circulation ever since former Sky Sports pundit Andy Gray pondered the slightly ridiculous question back in 2010.
Gray’s suggestion was met with derision and ridicule, and now Suarez is the latest big name to pour cold water on it.
In a recent interview with the Observer, via the Sport Bible, the Barca superstar claims Messi would have absolutely no problems, and said: “Of course he could. He’d pick up the ball, dribble past three players and hit it into the top corner!
“I’ve seen him seen him do it here in the rain, I’ve seen him do it in the midday sun.”
“He does it where he wants, when he wants. Messi’s unique. Put him in any team in the world and he’d be the best, just the same. And against English teams it usually goes OK for him.”
Messi, who initially struggled when competing against teams from the Premier League, has now scored against Manchester United, Arsenal and Manchester City, and will be looking to add to his tally when Barcelona visit the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday night.
To be fair, what on Earth was Andy Gray thinking when he said that? He should hang his head in shame!
