The legendary German midfielder was today restored to first team training at the club’s Carrington base – offering a glimmer of hope for a United future that looked over in the summer.
It’s unclear just why Schweinsteiger was back in training after being forced to work out on his own by Jose Mourinho. He isn’t registered for the Europa League so that rules him out of Thursday’s game and United have a number of midfield options anyway.
But it’s a positive sign – and one which seems almost universally supported by fans, his team-mates and just about everyone else.
Ballack is a former international team-mate of Schweinsteiger’s and it’s clear he’s happy with Mourinho’s decision to bring the midfielder back into the fold when you see the ex-Germany captain’s Instagram comment from earlier today.
After United posted pictures of the team in training, Ballack responded with a nice comment about Schweini:
In case you’ve missed the comment, it reads: “Right where you should be @bastianschweinsteiger @manchesterunited.”
So Ballack definitely agrees with the World Cup winner’s return.
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Schweinsteiger, but today’s appearance in training suggests he’s got an opportunity to prove himself to his manager in the hope of prolonging his stay at Old Trafford.
