Oliver Burke sent a cryptic tweet out after being dropped by Gordon Strachan for Scotland‘s 3-0 defeat to Slovakia.
The Red Bull Leipzig attacker went into both of his country’s World Cup qualifiers against Lithuania and Slovakia as the star man after his £13million move from Nottingham Forest to the Bundesliga in the summer.
But he failed to impress in the disappointing 1-1 draw with Lithuania at Hampden on Saturday.
Bizarrely, though, Burke was then dropped entirely from Strachan’s squad for tonight’s game in Trnava despite no sign of being injured.
Now, just 30 minutes after full-time, Burke has taken to Twitter to send out a tweet that you must think is related to his axing from tonight’s squad:
According to emojipedia.org, the Face Without Mouth empoji is defined as: “This emoji has eyes, and no mouth. Represents silence, as this emoji is always silent. Imagine the things he would say if he had a mouth!”
So if Burke did have a mouth, he’d probably say he was fully fit and was dropped by Strachan in an error from the Scotland manager.
He’s since deleted the tweet – no doubt recognising the reaction to it and realising he still has to travel home with his manager and team-mates.
Scotland’s loss to Slovakia means they now sit fourth in their qualifying group, with four points from three games, going into next month’s clash with England at Wembley.
