Tony Xia Tweets About ‘Difficult Decision’ to Sack Roberto Di Matteo

Tony Xia has tweeted about the ‘difficult decision’ he took in sacking Roberto Di Matteo as Aston Villa manager.

The Villains chairman got rid of the Italian boss this morning – just two days after the club’s 2-0 defeat to Preston North End took their record to just one victory in 12 games.

He was only appointed at Villa Park 124 days ago following Xia’s Recon Group completing their purchase of the club.

But the start to the season hasn’t been good enough and Xia, despite backing his manager regularly on Twitter, has decided to sack Di Matteo with Villa sitting 19th in the English Championship table.

Explanation

Xia has been very vocal on social media since becoming chairman so it was no surprise to see him tweet about the sacking afterwards:

One fan also decided to question Xia on his long term future at Villa – questioning if the bad start had changed his mind about moving forward with the club.

But Xia was having none of that:

Xia and Villa will now be looking for a replacement for Di Matteo, with Steve Bruce and Sam Allardyce among the favourites with bookmakers Paddy Power.
