Dele Alli was pulling out all the stops to impress England’s caretaker manager Gareth Southgate today.
Southgate took charge of his first training session at St George’s Park since replacing ‘bung’ scandal boss Sam Allardyce.
And with the slate wiped clean for every call-up star – less than three months after the last clean slate – competition for a starting place against Malta and Slovenia is intense.
Tottenham youngster Alli looked like he was enjoying this morning’s session – and even pulled off the cheekiest of nutmegs on his Spurs team-mate Eric Dier.
The 20-year-old midfielder timed it to perfection with Dier’s stride before flicking the ball through his legs backwards.
In one of those ‘did you see that?’ moments, Alli looked around at his fellow England peers expecting the adulation to come his way but it wasn’t forthcoming as nobody had even noticed it.
In fact, we’re not even sure if Dier noticed it himself.
Nevertheless, Alli’s reaction was priceless. And he’ll be glad that someone actually did catch the moment on camera.
