Bastian Schweinsteiger Had No Idea Who David Moyes is…According to Olly Murs

Bastian Schweinsteiger was absolutely clueless about who David Moyes was when he was given the Manchester United manager’s job – according to pop star Olly Murs.

Of course, Moyes didn’t last too long at Old Trafford and Schweinsteiger ended up signing for his successor Louis van Gaal, and it sounds like the German World Cup winner might have needed a bit of persuasion had it been Moyes who’d came in for him.

Lifelong United fan Murs played alongside Schweinsteiger in a charity match several years ago, and claims the then Bayern Munich midfielder asked him to clear up exactly who David Moyes was.

Speaking as a guest editor of Match of the Day magazine, Murs revealed the anecdote, saying: “I actually trained with Schweinsteiger.

“He gave me a pair of signed boots, which I wore in the 2014 Soccer Aid match. They were super-comfortable! At the time David Moyes had just taken charge of United and they were looking to buy new players.

“Bastian asked me, ‘Who is this David Moyes?’ He didn’t know who he was!”

Clearly, despite being in charge of the world’s biggest football club, Moyes hadn’t become a household name – and perhaps Schweinsteiger’s attitude was shared by some of the club’s transfer targets in the summer of 2013.
