Manchester City Brilliantly Troll Themselves on Twitter

Manchester City Brilliantly Troll Themselves on Twitter

Manchester City have been mercilessly trolled on their Twitter account over an 8-1 hammering at the hands of Middlesbrough almost a decade ago – by themselves.

The Sky Blues were absolutely demolished by Boro back on the final day of the 2007/2008 season, with one of the Premier League’s all-time flops Afonso Alves managing to score a hat-trick.

Of course, the defeat was before hundreds of millions of pounds was injected into the club by Sheikh Mansour, and the severity of the result actually ended up costing then manager Sven Goran Eriksson his job.

The new investment may have ensured that such embarrassing defeats were a thing of the past, but it doesn’t mean you re-write history, regardless of how much you try:

A nine-goal thriller is certainly one way to look at it.

The two teams meet at the Etihad this weekend – but we won’t be sticking any money on the scoreline from eight years ago being repeated.
