Andrea Pirlo Unintentionally Sparks Rumours of a Loan Move to Chelsea

Andrea Pirlo has managed to work some Chelsea fans into a minor frenzy this evening after unintentionally creating speculation he could be about to move to Stamford Bridge.

The veteran midfielder, now 37, is still on the books at MLS side New York City FC, having just represented the club in the American play-offs.

With the US season now in limbo until March, Pirlo is at a bit of a loose end until February at the very earliest and it seems he’s decided to spend a bit of time in London:

Now, this could be an entirely innocent trip to do a bit of shopping, see a West End show and spend a bit of time with his family.

But the blue heart emoji at the end of his caption – plus his long history with current Chelsea boss Antonio Conte – has managed to get a few Blues fans hoping he could be on the cusp of a short-term deal.

The likes of David Beckham, Robbie Keane and Landon Donovan have all went on loan from their MLS clubs to European teams in the off-season in the past – could Pirlo be about to do the same? Or are we clutching at straws?
