West Ham midfielder Dimitri Payet has talked about what it’d be like to play for London rivals Arsenal and even claimed he’s read that Arsene Wenger considers him as the Gunners’ missing puzzle piece.
Payet was linked with a move away from West Ham during the summer, after helping the club finish in a surprisingly high seventh place in last season’s Premier League.
Despite being 29 now, Payet’s magical goals and assists since he arrived in English football 18 months ago would ensure he’d be a wanted man if he ever went up for sale.
And speaking to French radio station RMC, via the Evening Standard, Payet said:”I read that Wenger considered me as the missing piece of Arsenal’s play, but he said nothing to me.
“We conceded five or six at home against them recently [a 5-1 home defeat for the Hammers].
“When you see them play, as a ball playing footballer, one could only enjoy oneself playing in this team.
“They are candidates for the title every year.”
Whilst West Ham and Payet are both struggling to rediscover the outstanding form of last season, it certainly sounds like Payet would be tempted to make a switch to the Emirates if the opportunity ever presented itself.
But would he fit in at Arsenal? Is he good enough to replace any of the Gunners’ current starters? What do you think?
