An injury to Eden Hazard seems less surprising now when you consider he’s the most fouled player in the English Premier League this season.
The Chelsea winger will miss tonight’s game against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light after picking up a knock in the weekend’s 1-0 victory over West Brom.
He was replaced by Branislav Ivanovic late on in that game and it appears he’s not been able to shake off the injury.
That’s a big blow to Chelsea – but is it any surprise when you look at Hazard’s stats this season? Not really.
According to whoscored.com, Hazard has the highest average of fouls committed on him per game at 3.3 – with Diego Costa coming in second with 2.8.
He’s been fouled 50 times in total this season, eight more than his Chelsea team-mate Costa again, and that means an injury looked like a formality:

That’s unfortunate for Chelsea fans who see Hazard as the most important player in their attack this season.
Antonio Conte’s men sit top of the Premier League and if results go their way tonight then they could end up as much as six points clear.
But they’ll have to cope with the absence of Hazard – who has eight goals and one assist in the league already this season.
