Boxing star Amir Khan mistook Arsenal defender Shkodran Mustafi for a security guard last night, as he watched the Gunners lose 2-0 to Southampton.
A number of Arsenal’s key men were left out of the EFL Cup clash, with Arsene Wenger clearly keeping one eye on the trip to West Ham this weekend.
That meant German duo Mesut Ozil and Shkodran Mustafi were given the night off, and they spent it watching the team from Ozil’s private box in the Emirates.
Ozil invited Khan to come along too, however the former unified light-welterweight world champion had no idea who Mustafi was at first glance, mistaking his for a security guard.
When the Bolton-born fighter realised his error, he was quick to hold his hands up and post a video to his official Instagram account, admitting he’d just came from a long-haul flight from Dubai:
Khan captioned the post, “Good to see@skodranmustafi I walked past the poor guy thinking he was the security in the VIP boxes. My bad bro. I just come off a dubai flight ?.”
While Wenger’s line-up gave stars like Ozil and Mustafi a break ahead of a gruelling Christmas schedule, Arsenal struggled to control the game against the Saints, leading to a 2-0 loss.
Khan meanwhile is hoping to bounce back from his defeat to Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez, with three fights in 2017.
