Simon Mignolet was recalled to the Liverpool first-team a couple of weeks ago after Loris Karius’s form dipped, but the Belgian threw in a howler of his own this afternoon – and was absolutely hammered for it.
Mignolet was chosen to start between the sticks for the Reds against Stoke City at Anfield, and it wasn’t too long before he was at the centre of controversy.
After a healthy spell of pressure from the visitors, striker Jon Walters powered a header towards Mignolet’s goal from an awkward angle, but despite it being a decent effort, you’d definitely expect the goalie to save it.
However, to the horror of Liverpool fans watching, Mignolet could only parry the ball into the back of his own net:

As you can imagine, the goal really didn’t go down well with fans – and Mignolet has probably never been less popular:

Mignolet's either piss poor or unreal, there never seems to be a middle ground with him. #LFC

When i see such people such as Mignolet, Karius, Fellaini, Mathieu, Danilo succeeded in life, I know there is still a hope for me.

Mignolet being Mignolet. Can be the best and worst player on the field all in the one game

I wonder if Gary Neville will dissect Mignolet's part in that goal.

Sometimes it baffles me; why on earth did we get Mignolet again over Reina? For some shitty tiki taka "start from back"?

I'd still take Karius over Mignolet any day.

Mignolet is an absolute joke. #Liverpool
need a GK before they will ever make a
genuine attempt to win the league!

Liverpool should hire me as a keeper. I wouldn't perform much better than Mignolet or Karius. Only plus point would be I'd get paid well.

I hope you all remember why we should never play Mignolet.

How is it nearly 2017 and we're still letting Mignolet and Lovren conspire to concede spawny goals?
— Si (@PhantomGoal) December 27, 2016
Mignolet is just a Karius who went to private school abroad ???

What do you think of the goal? Was it really that bad?
