Video: How Did Wayne Rooney Avoid a Red Card For This Tackle on James Milner?

Manchester United had an afternoon to forget against Liverpool this afternoon but Wayne Rooney is one of the few United players who can leave Old Trafford feeling relieved after he somehow avoided a red card.

The Red Devils captain was a second-half substitution, and chasing the club’s all-time top-scorer record, he certainly had something to play for, with Liverpool leading 1-0.

But, in the end, all Rooney could end up contributing was one or two crunching challenges, one of which almost left fellow Englishman James Milner needing a visit to the hospital.

When you view the clip, it’s difficult to say whether or not there’s any intent to harm Milner, but nevertheless, it’s still a really nasty tackle:

As you can imagine, fans and onlookers were quickly on social media to complain about the England captain’s behaviour:

What do you think of the incident? Should Rooney have been sent off?
