The former Manchester City youth delighted fans of his club when it appeared he had rejected Rooney’s offer to swap shirts at full-time.
BT Sport’s cameras picked it up and it’s since gone viral on social media, with City fans celebrating Evans’ decision to ignore a piece of history.
But the Reading man – who left the Etihad a year ago – has cleared up all the talk around it and taken to Twitter to share a picture of Rooney’s strip, which he grabbed in the tunnel rather than on the pitch after a bad result:

That’s surely going to disappoint City fans, who can be forgiven for thinking this was a fellow City supporter quite rightly knocking back a United strip.
But that’s not the case and you fully expect Evans to have the historic strip up on his wall before long.
Rooney scored in the 4-0 win for United to equal Sir Bobby Charlton’s all-time goalscoring record.
