George Evans Clearing Up Wayne Rooney Shirt Swap Shun Will Disappoint Manchester City Fans

George Evans didn’t knock back Wayne Rooney‘s shirt after Reading’s FA Cup defeat to Manchester United – he swapped it in the tunnel.

The former Manchester City youth delighted fans of his club when it appeared he had rejected Rooney’s offer to swap shirts at full-time.

BT Sport’s cameras picked it up and it’s since gone viral on social media, with City fans celebrating Evans’ decision to ignore a piece of history.

But the Reading man – who left the Etihad a year ago – has cleared up all the talk around it and taken to Twitter to share a picture of Rooney’s strip, which he grabbed in the tunnel rather than on the pitch after a bad result:

That’s surely going to disappoint City fans, who can be forgiven for thinking this was a fellow City supporter quite rightly knocking back a United strip.

But that’s not the case and you fully expect Evans to have the historic strip up on his wall before long.

Rooney scored in the 4-0 win for United to equal Sir Bobby Charlton’s all-time goalscoring record.
