Roger Federer won the Australian Open this morning in Melbourne, sending fans all around the world into rapturous celebrations – not least the Arsenal squad.
The Swiss master won the 18th major of his career at the age of 35 after seeing off old rival Rafa Nadal in a five-set thriller, and looked absolutely exhausted when he lifted his latest trophy.
And it turned out Federer has a few fans in north London, judging by videos posted to midfielder Granit Xhaka’s social media streams this afternoon.
Xhaka is a Swiss international himself, so we can understand his joy at the result, but just look at the unbridled screams of Mesut Ozil and Shkodran Mustafi – and the club’s Spanish contingent don’t look too happy:
The Gunners ran out 5-0 winners against Southampton in the FA Cup yesterday – wonder if Federer will be celebrating quite as wildly if they win the competition in May.
What do you make of the celebrations?
