Can we seriously give Lucas Perez’s backheel assist for Olivier Giroud‘s winner against Preston the appreciation it deserves?

The Frenchman came to the rescue for the Gunners again as he fired the ball home with a minute to spare to give Arsenal a big 2-1 victory at Deepdale.

The hosts took the lead early in the match when Callum Robinson finished smartly amid chaos in the Arsenal defence, but Aaron Ramsey hit back just after half-time to get the visitors into a game they looked so out of in the first period.

It looked like we were heading for a draw and replay as both teams struggled to create any chances towards the full-time whistle.

But Giroud popped up in the box to fire beyond Chris Maxwell after one beautiful, but underrated, assist from Perez.

It’s the big French striker who wins the ball in the air in the box, but it’s all about Perez’s backheel under pressure to set up the chance for Giroud to hit the winner and spare Arsenal blushes.

Just take a look and tell us this isn’t one of the best assists of the season so far:

We hope Perez gets the credit he deserves for that.
