Joey Barton scored a nice free kick to give Burnley a big win over Southampton in just his second game back for the club.
The English midfielder sealed a much-anticipated return to Turf Moor at the start of this month after his Rangers contract was terminated in November.
Barton was a failure at Ibrox, playing just eight times and leading to more controversy off the pitch than on it before the club decided to cut ties with him after his fallout with Mark Warburton and some team mates.
So it should surprise Rangers fans and the rest of Scottish football to see Barton making a big impact against Southampton this afternoon.
He climbed off the bench in the 73rd minute of the game at Turf Moor and gave his side their winner just five minutes later when he curled the ball home from a 25-yard free-kick:

If only he could have produced that sort of quality at Rangers, he probably wouldn’t have been criticised so much and the club may have been tempted to keep him around despite the disciplinary issues.
