Video: Lionel Messi Rescues Point For Barcelona With Sublime Freekick Against Villarreal

Lionel Messi has again shown why he is so important to Barcelona with a fantastic freekick into the top corner against Villarreal.

The midfielder was unlucky to lose out on the 2016 Ballon D’Or with Cristiano Ronaldo taking the trophy home but has started off 2017 in style with two goals in two games.

The Argentinian was on the scoresheet on Thursday evening as Barca were knocked out of the Copa del Rey to Athletic Bilbao, however, his finish tonight did manage to earn his side a shair of the spoils.

Luis Enrique’s men were staring a second defeat in a row thanks to Nicola Sansone’s opening goal for the home side until Messi stepped up to slot home an unbelievable freekick in the 90th minute.

The result now means the Spanish champions sit five points behind Real Madrid at the top of La Liga, with Zinedine Zidane’s side having a game in hand.
