Wayne Rooney is now Manchester United‘s all-time leading goalscorer alongside Sir Bobby Charlton after scoring against Reading in the FA Cup this afternoon.

The English striker has been waiting a while to get the goals to take him level with the club great, ending a five-game barren run that stretched back to November with today’s strike.

It came in the sixth minute of the clash against the English Championship side at Old Trafford, Rooney touching Juan Mata’s strike beyond Ali Al-Habsi in the Reading goal.

The strike quite rightly led to a rapturous reception for the United legend as he moves on to 249 goals for the club alongside Charlton.

You can see the historic goal here:

Rooney will now be eyeing the record for himself with plenty of the FA Cup tie left to play.

Anthony Martial has already added a second for United as they dominate their lower league opponents and you’d certainly back the captain to do the business and his 250th.
