Glenbard North (Carol Stream, Illinois) cornerback Tyrik Henderson’s recruiting stock is rising quickly, as the number one class of 2018 cornerback in the state of Illinois has recently received scholarship offers from multiple premier Division I schools, including Syracuse, Boston College, and Temple, each coming within a three-day period. Henderson announced he had received an offer from Western Michigan on Wednesday.
Henderson also told me exclusively that he will take unofficial visits to Syracuse, Boston College, and Temple, although he has no dates set for those visits.
The consensus three-star recruit told me that he has been in contact with Michigan State, Wisconsin, and Missouri and plans on taking UVs to MSU on February 25, Wisconsin on March 14, and Missouri in March. His teammate, linebacker/safety Jayleen Fitzpatrick will be accompanying him on his Wisconsin visit.
Henderson is currently sitting on offers from 13 schools, including Iowa, Iowa State, Missouri, Purdue, Northern Illinois, Toledo, Indiana, and Central Michigan. Henderson went on an unofficial visit to Iowa State’s campus in Ames, Iowa with his family on Saturday. Additionally, he has taken other unofficial visits (UVs) to the following nine schools: Notre Dame, Iowa, Illinois, Purdue, Central Michigan, and two each to Michigan State and Missouri.
“It feels great to have different options from schools that believe in me, whether it is a power five school or MAC, any offer is a blessing,” said Henderson.
He declared that he has no leader in his recruitment at the moment.
Tyrik Henderson, who stands at an athletic build of 5’11” and 165 pounds has played both receiver and cornerback at Glenbard North, but is being recruited by colleges as a cornerback. Henderson possesses both the speed and agility to play either position, but his quickness, field vision, and excellent tackling skills on the defensive side of the ball make him a suitbale fit to play the role of a Division I defensive back.
Aside from visits, Henderson plans on staying busy with his prestigious 7-on-7 team, Midwest Boom, who recently took home the first place crown at the Adidas 7v7 East Regional tournament in Central Florida.
Currently touring the East coast as a member of Midwest Boom, he’s been turning heads with his prowess and earned Pylon 7-on-7 Southeast Regional All-Tournament honors in Orlando, Florida on Thursday.
“It’s going good! We won our first two tournaments in tournament play tomorrow of our next one. We won two national championships, [and] we are the first 7v7 team to do so,” Henderson remarked enthusiastically. “I would say they have played a big role in my style of play and helped me develop as a player.”
He also revealed earlier this month that he would be attending one of Nike‘s The Opening Regional Camps, the Under Armour All-American Regional Camp series, and the Rivals 3 Stripe Camp Series in St. Louis, Missouri on May 31.
While Henderson did not have anything to say to the fans of his recruiters, he did promise that something was coming soon.
So what should you expect to happen soon? That he’ll be a busy man.
