Video: Should Marcos Alonso’s Chelsea Goal Have Been Disallowed For Elbow on Hector Bellerin?

Marcos Alonso fired Chelsea into the lead against Arsenal this afternoon – but should it have been cancelled out for an elbow on Hector Bellerin as he applied the finish?

The Spanish defender was the unlikely opening scorer at the Stamford Bridge when he nodded in the rebound from Diego Costa’s header that cannoned off the crossbar.

But Arsenal fans aren’t happy that it stood – after Bellerin took an elbow to the face during the finish:

Should Alonso’s goal have been ruled out by referee Martin Atkinson?

The goal obviously stood, and Chelsea have their 1-0 lead – something they’ll be hoping to hold on to as they chase a victory which would extend their lead at the top of the English Premier League to 12 points before the rest of today’s football.

Antonio Conte’s men lead Tottenham and Arsenal by nine points so a win would definitely strengthen their case as the main title contenders.
