Celtic Fan Lost Out on 125/1 Winner on Barcelona Miracle Game Over Bizarre Woodwork Rule

A Celtic fan appeared to lose out on an amazing 125/1 bet on the Barcelona v Paris Saint-Germain because of a bizarre woodwork rule.

Hoops supporter David Reid used Bet Victor’s Price It Up function to place a bet on Lionel Messi to score a penalty, Edinson Cavani to hit the woodwork and Barcelona to qualify ahead of last night’s amazing Champions League clash at the Camp Nou:

As you’ll all know, Barca got the 6-1 win on the night after an amazing final 10 minutes in which they scored three goals, including a Sergi Roberto winner at the death.

Messi’s penalty helped the Catalan giants on their way in the second half, but what about that Cavani woodwork attempt? That came in the second half too as PSG threatened to put the game completely out of sight.

So when the Barca winner went in you could have forgiven Reid for going absolutely bonkers over his 125/1 bet which would bag him £625 from just a fiver.

But it turns out he’s not being paid out as Bet Victor have a rule that says if a player hits the woodwork and the ball goes out of play, it doesn’t count.

Here’s how the exchange played out on Twitter:

As you can see from the retweets and likes on this tweet, fans aren’t happy that Reid would be denied the £625 winner over a rule many don’t agree with.

And you get the impression Bet Victor were aware of the backlash before they told Reid they’d settle the bet as a winner as a goodwill gesture:

But he wasn’t happy with that – and wants to see other punters who had the same bet rewarded with winnings:

So Reid will get his £625, but it looks like Bet Victor might lose out on more than that with the negative reaction to their woodwork rule.
