Last summer, the hierarchy at the Nou Camp decided they needed a new ball-playing midfielder, a potential heir to Andres Iniesta’s throne, and Gomes made the most sense – even if he did cost almost £42 million.
The deal was done with Valencia not long after Gomes played a key role in Portugal winning Euro 2016, and it looked like Gomes would go from strength to strength with Luis Enrique’s men.
However, things haven’t been going well, and some supporters have been whistling the 23-year-old every time he touches the ball.
Pique has had enough of it, and as a senior player, he’s gone out of his way to stick up for his team-mate, as reported by La Liga journalist Rik Sharma:
Pique: The whistling of Andre Gomes is intolerable. Those who come to whistle should stay at home.

We have no idea if the doubters will heed Pique’s warning, but it’ll certainly be interesting to find out if Barca stick by their big investment.
What do you think of the situation?
