Jermaine Defoe Gets Super Emotional on Twitter After England Recall

Jermaine Defoe Gets Super Emotional on Twitter After England Recall

Gareth Southgate has included Jermaine Defoe in his latest England squad, much to the delight of the Sunderland striker.

Defoe last made an appearance for his country against Chile in November 2013, his 55th England cap.

The 34-year-old has been drafted in following injuries to captain Wayne Rooney, Tottenham forward Harry Kane and Liverpool front-man Daniel Sturridge.

And it seems Defoe is over the moon to be selected and admitted it’s always been his dream to play for England, making his recall all the more special:

The former Tottenham and Portsmouth forward also believes he deserves his place in the squad after dedicating himself to the game for so many years:

It’s always nice to see an elder statesman of the game being so excited at the prospect of playing for his country.

Perhaps some of the younger players in the England squad should appreciate their opportunities as much as Defoe?

England play Germany away in a friendly on 22 March before a World Cup qualifier against Lithuania at Wembley on 26 March.
