Pundit May Have to Eat a Rat After Betting Benjamin Mendy Would Never Play for France

Pundit May Have to Eat a Rat After Betting Benjamin Mendy Would Never Play for France

Benjamin Mendy was one of four Monaco players who received a call-up to Didier Deschamps France squad this afternoon, much to the distaste of one French pundit.

According to reports, several years ago, RMC Sport pundit Eric di Meco claimed if Mendy was ever called up to the senior France team, he would eat a rat.

As you do…

The left-back was one of Monaco’s stand-out players as the Ligue 1 leaders dismantled Manchester City and sent them tumbling out of the Champions League last night.

However, despite proving his doubters wrong and running City ragged by grabbing two assists in the Stade Louis II stadium, Mendy isn’t one to hold a grudge.

Mendy took to Twitter this afternoon claiming he’s not “vindictive” but wanted to remind everyone of di Meco’s comments:

Awkwardly,  Di Meco made the exact same bet about Chelsea’s defender Cesar Azpilicueta in 2013, claiming he would never become Spain’s first-choice right-back, which he of course has.

Leave the rodents out of this!
