Video: Bastian Schweinsteiger Posts Classy Goodbye Message to Manchester United

Bastian Schweinsteiger has posted a classy video message to say goodbye to Manchester United.

The German midfielder has today been confirmed as Chicago Fire’s newest player, signing a one-year deal with the MLS club after finding it too difficult to get regular games at Old Trafford.

Schweinsteiger has only been at United since the start of the 2015/16 season when Louis van Gaal persuaded him to swap Munich for Manchester.

In that time, he made just 35 appearances for the club, scoring two goals, but managing to help the team lift the FA Cup last season.

The World Cup winner started this campaign off being frozen out by new manager Jose Mourinho and had to work hard in training to prove he had something to offer the first team.

But it led to just four appearances, giving Schweinsteiger no choice but to take advantage of an opportunity elsewhere – and that comes in Chicago.

After his move to Fire was announced, Schweinsteiger was quick to take to Instagram to say thanks to United for all they gave him over his 20-month stay at Old Trafford:

Schweinsteiger will always be remembered as a classy player and man by United fans – and the video just proves that.

He’ll now join up with Chicago Fire and hope to make an instant impact after they finished bottom of the MLS rankings over the previous two seasons.
