Scotland secured a vital win over Slovenia at Hampden on Sunday night, with Chris Martin popping up with the late goal – but it was Celtic midfielder Stuart Armstrong who was receiving the plaudits from his manager afterwards.
Going into game, Strachan probably knew that anything short of a victory would likely mean he’d be searching for a new job tomorrow morning, and his players looked like they understood the task in hand in the early stages.
Scotland huffed and puffed but it wasn’t until the 89th minute that Martin found the breakthrough, after finishing neatly from an Armstrong pass.
At the age of 24, Armstrong was making his Scotland debut, thrown into the starting XI without ever having made an appearance before, but he was outstanding throughout, and his manager wasn’t shy in letting the world know how he felt:

Comparing Chris Martin to Kenny Dalglish and Gary McAllister, as well as throwing that sort of compliment at Armstrong?
It’s probably fair to say Strachan was pretty delighted with his evening’s work.
What do you make of his comments?
