Video: Patrick Roberts Tells How His Grandad Inspired Him to Play Football

Patrick Roberts insists his grandad is the inspiration behind him playing football.

The Celtic winger is one of adidas’ Backed by Messi 2 players alongside some of the best youngsters in world football, including Ajax’s Kasper Dolberg, PSG’s Jean-Kévin Augustin and Milan’s Davide Calabria.

And he’s got the opportunity to tell his story through their promotional videos this season.

Adidas’ most recent video saw the players share their inspiration for playing the game they love – and Roberts has told how it’s grandad Fred who inspired him to take up the game and become the player he is:

He’s done well with that inspiration, becoming a star at Fulham before Manchester City spent £12million to sign him in 2015.

Roberts has been on loan at Celtic for the majority of the time since then, scoring 11 goals in 47 appearances for the Hoops.

And he should return to City in the summer hoping to make an impact on Pep Guardiola’s first team – or spend time out on loan at another top club.
