Brendan Rodgers Reveals Phone Call With Referee Chief John Fleming After Alex Schalk Dive

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers has revealed that Scotland’s Head of Refereeing phoned him following Don Robertson’s decision to award Ross County a penalty after Alex Schalk dived in the box.

Schalk conned the referee into believing Celtic defender Erik Sviatchenko had fouled him, with County forward Liam Boyce dispatching the resulting spot kick in the 2-2 draw at Dingwall.

Boyce’s penalty infuriated the Celtic support, along with Hoops skipper Scott Brown who reacted angrily as he was shown a red card for a painful challenge on Boyce minutes later.

And now Rodgers has revealed that referee chief John Fleming gave him a call to apologise after the match.

However, while the ex-Liverpool boss appreciated Fleming reaching out, he still wants Robertson to apologise to Sviatchenko for making the wrong decision.

BBC Sport’s senior football reporter Chris McLaughlin confirmed the phone call took place via his Twitter account this afternoon:

Celtic’s attention now turns to their Scottish Cup semi-final against Old Firm rivals Rangers at Hampden Park on Sunday.
