The Tottenham u23’s coach suffered a cardiac arrest during a routine training session yesterday afternoon and was rushed to hospital, however, he passed away in the early hours of this morning.
Several fans of the defender have taken to social networking site Twitter to post their condolences for Ehiogu, who played for Middlesbrough, Aston Villa, Rangers and Sheffield United.
However, it was Merson – who played alongside Ehiogu at Villa Park – who gave the most touching tribute of the afternoon as he broke down on Sky Sports News HQ:
Ehiogu made four appearances for the England national team, scoring once, a header in a 3–0 victory over Spain on 28 February 2001.
The 44-year-old won two League Cups during his career, one with Villa and the other during his seven-year spell at the Riverside Stadium.
