Aston Villa definitely haven’t signed Brazilian legend Roberto Carlos, but that didn’t stop some supporters for falling for the rumour hook, line and sinker.
Of course, now at the grand age of 44, Carlos and his insanely powerful free-kicks are a thing of the past as far as football is concerned, having retired back in 2012.
But when the Real Madrid hero appeared on Twitter in a picture with Aston Villa owner Tony Xia earlier today, some supporters put two and two together and came up with five, with people actually under the impression that Xia would sign Carlos in his mid-40s.
To be fair, Xia’s caption with the photos doesn’t really help, but surely it’s pretty clear he’s just joking about actually signing Carlos, right?
Roberto @Oficial_RC3 told his story just missed to come to @AVFCOfficial in 97/98. Now this is the first sign? ?this summer?! pic.twitter.com/uKflJVLEms

Sorry, lads – but you really haven’t just signed a retired Brazilian legend.
To be honest, it’s probably for the best, though.
What do you think?
