David Beckham has revealed he was very close to joining Roma at one point during his playing career – and the main attraction was the opportunity to play alongside Francesco Totti.
Totti is preparing to hang up his boots this weekend after a long and illustrious one-club career spanning more than two decades, and former England skipper Beckham has gone out of his way to pay his respects to one of football’s great modern day players.
The two players were opponents on several occasions during Beckham’s playing days but little did we know they were almost team-mates.
During his stint with LA Galaxy, Beckham had two loan spells at AC Milan during the MLS off-season, but he could’ve opted for the Eternal City instead:

Beckham and Totti in the same midfield?! All you’d need was Pirlo in there next to them and George Best up-front and you’d have literally the coolest football team of all-time.
If only, eh?
