Everton are being hailed for honouring Seamus Coleman’s contract offer after he suffered a terrible leg break.
The Toffees today announced that the Irishman has signed a new five-year contract at the club, keeping him at Goodison Park until 2022.
That could see him remain an Everton player for the rest of his career as he’ll be 33 by the time that deal ends.
And the club are rightly receiving plaudits for rewarding him with a deal that was on the table before he broke his leg while on international duty with Ireland in March.
That injury should keep Coleman out of action well into next year – but Everton have shown faith in their right back.
Fans have been quick to take to Twitter to praise the Toffees:
Coleman has played almost 250 times for Everton and is hugely popular with supporters of the club for his swashbuckling performances from right back.
They may have been worried that Coleman could be sold this summer, but the leg break and new contract means he’ll be staying at Goodison Park for the foreseeable future.
