Gedion Zelalem’s Arsenal Future Thrown Into Doubt After Suffering ACL Tear

Gedion Zelalem’s Arsenal Future Thrown Into Doubt After Suffering ACL Tear

Former Rangers midfielder Gedion Zelalem is facing an extended period on the sidelines after tearing his ACL and it could have wider repercussions for his career with parent club Arsenal.

The 20-year-old spent last season on-loan at Ibrox under Mark Warburton in The Championship, and impressed supporters and pundits with his classy and self-assured performances.

However, Zelalem returned to Arsenal after just one season in Glasgow, and was then sent on loan to Dutch side VVV Venlo, where he has just completed the season.

He’s currently with the United States Under-20 squad at the Under-20 World Cup in Croatia, and according to, he suffered a tear of his anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during Monday’s 3-3 draw with Ecuador.

Zelalem’s Arsenal contract runs out in 2018, and having never made a competitive first-team appearance for the Gunners, it seems likely this injury could have a big impact on his future in North London.

What do you think of the situation?

Surely, if he was looking for a club after his rehabilitation, he’d be welcomed back at Rangers, no?
