Inverness Tweet Burning Newcastle and Dundee United About Relegation Comes Back to Haunt Them

Inverness’ official Twitter account will be wishing they’d never sent this tweet after they suffered relegation this afternoon.

Richie Foran’s Caley Thistle will be playing Championship football next season following a disappointing final day for them.

They went into the game bottom of the league, one point behind Hamilton in the relegation play-off spot, and knew that they’d need to win and hope for the result at New Douglas Park going their way.

But that didn’t work out as Accies beat Dundee 4-0 – rendering Inverness’ 3-2 victory over Motherwell as meaningless.

So Caley Thistle are down – and they’ll probably be wishing this tweet wasn’t doing the rounds after it was confirmed:

Inverness were responding to a fan who criticised them cracking jokes on Twitter on transfer deadline day rather than actually signing players.

That supporter just happened to be one of Newcastle and Dundee United – who were both relegated last season.

The tweet is now doing the rounds again and should prove popular with Dundee United fans, in particular, as they target a place in the Premiership next season via the play-offs.
