Man United Fans Have Theory Behind Why Phil Jones and Chris Smalling Have Been So Useless

Manchester United are holding their annual Player of the Year ceremony at Old Trafford tonight and all the club’s biggest stars are in attendance.

However, while the event is to reward players who have contributed to the club’s success, the United fans believe the ceremony may have answered questions surrounding the form of Chris Smalling and Phil Jones.

Smalling and Jones have played bit-part roles for Jose Mourinho’s side this term, with the ex-Chelsea boss appearing to favour the combination of Eric Bailly and Marcos Rojo.

Bailly and Rojo have played a key part in United’s defensive solidity this season, as the club went on a staggering run of 25 matches unbeaten.

However, the club’s fans think it could be more than the form of Bailly and Rojo which is keeping Jones and Smalling out of the team.

Instead, they believe it could be because both players are paying more attention to their other halves:

Mourinho may have to call on one of either Jones or Smalling for the Europa League final against Ajax after Eric Bailly was shown a red card in the semi-final with Celta Vigo.
