Schalke Release New State-of-the-Art Home Shirt Complete with Microchip

It’s the time of year football fans love, with new jersey after new jersey released just about every day, but German side Schalke have taken the biscuit with their new state-of-the-art shirt.

The Bundesliga giants have become the first elite football team in Europe to start wearing ‘smart’ clothing, and their new royal blue home strip will come complete with a payment chip embedded in the sleeve.

But what’s it all in aid of?

Well, the futuristic new design¬†is all part of the club’s new sponsorship agreement with online supermarket AllyouneedFresh, and the chip allows supporters to pay for items within the stadium and receive discounts for doing so.

It should definitely make going for a snack at half-time a lot more hassle-free.

But what do you think of the new exciting innovation? Would you like to see teams in the UK start to follow Schalke’s lead?
