However, plenty of social media users remain unconvinced.
The Hammers spent much of last summer trying desperately to sign a striker and bolster their attack, however, they failed in their pursuits of both Jermaine Defoe and Scott Hogan.
It seems Slaven Bilic is keen to avoid such a repeat in the upcoming transfer window, with reports linking him with Iheanacho, who has spent much of this season as a back-up to Segio Aguero and Gabriel Jesus.
And while a move to sign a homegrown, young and hungry striker who is struggling for game-time would usually make a lot of sense, nobody is convinced that the Hammers can get this one over the line:
Manchester City forward Kelechi Iheanacho on list of players West Ham are looking at signing this summer. Would cost £20 million

West Ham want to sign Kelechi Iheanacho. Looks like they're set for another summer of bidding for strikers who don't want to join them. pic.twitter.com/MYa2vCoaVS

@SkyKaveh Watch us bid £3.75m with payments spread over 25yrs but not before having him on loan for 2yrs to make sure he can play the game

@SkyKaveh He's ok but he's not worth £20m

From "better than Rashford" to "West Ham bench". Quite a rise for Iheanacho ?? https://t.co/3VnX5jNIAO

About 5% chance Iheanacho joins West Ham lmao

Would a deal for Iheanacho strengthen West Ham ahead of next season?
Or is signing the highly-rated Nigerian international another unrealistic transfer target?
