Arsenal managed to keep their hopes of finishing in the top four alive this evening by seeing off Southampton – with Oliver Giroud managing to score the goal that clinched it.
Realistically, the Gunners need to win all of their remaining Premier League matches to have any hope of being in the Champions League next season, and after a drab first-half at St. Mary’s, it looked like we could be in for a 0-0 draw.
However, Arsene Wenger’s men looked a different team in the second period, and, as we told you earlier tonight, Alexis Sanchez managed to break the deadlock courtesy of an exquisite piece of skill.
After that, Southampton went to two up-front, but that played into Arsenal’s hands, who swiftly caught them on the brake and scored a second through Giroud on 83 minutes:

The victory moves Arsenal into fifth place in the Premier League, just three points off fourth.
They couldn’t possibly do it again, could they?
