Liverpool fans had their nerves settled on a tense final day of the Premier League season this afternoon as Georginio Wijnaldum made the breakthrough against Middlesbrough.
Jurgen Klopp’s men hosted their already-relegated opponents knowing all they needed to do to secure a top-four spot was to match Arsenal’s result against Everton at the Emirates.
However, Arsenal raced into a 2-0 lead in their match and Liverpool were really struggling to make the breakthrough at Anfield.
They were huffing and puffing but nothing seemed to do the trick – until Wijnaldum played a one-two with Firmino, before absolutely blasting in the opening goal:

That’s a pretty special finish from the Dutchman, eh? And that will have definitely calmed a few nerves down in Merseyside.
What do you think of the goal, and of Wijnaldum’s debut season as a Liverpool player in general?
Has he been an unsung hero?
