Video: Man Utd’s Eric Bailly Gives Away Ridiculous Penalty v Southampton

Eric Bailly has unquestionably been one of Manchester United‘s best players this season but his handball against Southampton tonight was utterly ridiculous.

The Ivory Coast centre-back has been playing slightly out of position at right-back, with Jose Mourinho presumably looking at other options given Bailly is suspended for next week’s Europa League final.

And in the opening stages at St. Mary’s, the 23-year-old looked completely out of sorts, and his decision to control a relatively harmless ball with his bicep is simply inexplicable:

Fortunately for Bailly, goalkeeper Sergio Romero kept his cool and pulled off an impressive save from Saints striker Manolo Gabbiadini:

Replays showed Bailly was probably outside of the penalty area when he handled but, even still, what on Earth was he playing at?!

It’s probably just as well that he’s suspended for the cup final because playing like this is likely to see Mourinho drop him.

What do you think of the incident, and Bailly’s wild decision?
