But that’s exactly what the ex-Gunners defender did today, as he admitted he’d love his former side to make a move for Hull City centre-back Harry Maguire this summer.
Yes, despite the fact both John Terry and Michael Keane are reportedly available this summer, Campbell would like Arsene Wenger to take a punt on Maguire.
The 24-year-old was tipped for greatness by manager Marco Silva earlier this season after a string of impressive performances.
Granted, Campbell also named Antoine Griezmann, Kylian Mbappe, Karim Benzema and Virgil van Dijk among his transfer targets, but the inclusion of Maguire will surely raise a few eyebrows.
He told BetStars, “At the back, I’m going for an English guy Harry Maguire.
“I think he’s definitely one of the players who could make a difference. I think a better team could definitely raise his game.”
Campbell added, “He’s got two good feet, he’s very mobile for a big guy. That’s definitely a plus for me because sometimes the big guys can’t move around.
“With better training and the better players against him week in week out training-wise, I think definitely he can step it up.”
What do you reckon Arsenal fans, would Maguire improve a defence that already features Laurent Koscielny, Shkodran Mustafi and Rob Holding?
