Tennis legend John McEnroe revealed himself to be something of a Rangers fan during Andy Murray‘s French Open match this afternoon – after insisting the Gers were the only Scottish team he’s heard of.
The multiple Grand Slam winner was in his usual position in the commentary box for Murray’s first-round win over Andrey Kuznetsov at Roland Garros today, when the mid-game chat turned to football.
McEnroe’s lead commentator brought up the fact Murray’s grandfather played for Hibs, and that the current World No.1 was also a fan of the Edinburgh side.
But a puzzled McEnroe had no idea who the Hibees were, and simply replied: “Glasgow Rangers is as far as I know”:

He might be synonymous with tennis but you’d think a sporting enthusiast like McEnroe would’ve heard of Celtic at some point, surely?
Who knows – maybe we could see Johnny Mac taking up a seat in the director’s box at Ibrox at the start of next season.
Stranger things have happened.
