Why £60Million Could Prove to be Worth it For Virgil Van Dijk

Why £60Million Could Prove to be Worth it For Virgil Van Dijk

Virgil van Dijk might find himself leaving Southampton in a big money move this summer.

So big that reports claim he could be worth £60million to potential suitors – with chairman Ralph Krueger saying the St Mary’s could actually knock back a bid of that amount if it were to come in.

But is he worth that amount of money? It doesn’t look that way if you pay attention to the view of Liverpool supporters, who have seen their club regularly linked with a move for the Dutchman.

Here we explain why van Dijk could be worth £60m:

He’s a Top Defender

But He’s More Than That – He Can Pass Too

And He Can Score

It’s Not Much More Expensive Than What This Man Has Been Bought For..

David Luiz was once a £50million signing for Paris Saint-Germain and cost Chelsea £34m to buy back last summer. Is there a big difference between the two? Arguably van Dijk is a better, and younger, centre back.

And This Man Too

Is Stones better than van Dijk? We don’t think so.

He Could Play at His Next Team For At Least Six Years

At just 25, you’d imagine van Dijk’s next team will be the one he spends his peak years with. Six years from now he’ll be 31 and probably still good enough to play at the highest level.

Southampton Love Him

He’s been at St Mary’s less than two years and scooped their Player of the Season award in his first campaign and may have done the same in his second had he avoided injury. The club loves him and so do the supporters – so there’s no doubting his worth to them.

Did We Mention His Free-Kicks Too?
