The Ibrox club have set about an ambitious squad rebuild this summer following the arrival of Pedro Caixinha, with Ryan Jack, Bruno Alves, Fabio Cardoso and Dalcio already signed and secured.
And now Morelos looks to be next on Caixinha’s list, with the 20-year-old Colombian said to be on his way.
Here’s our three reasons why supporters should be enthusiastic about the arrival:
Rangers are definitely getting someone who knows exactly where the back of the net is.
Throughout the 2016/17 Finnish Veikkausliiga campaign, Morelos found the back of the net 16 times in 15 matches, only failing to score in one solitary game. Moreover, the new Finnish season is already underway and Morelos is already up to his old tricks. Having played nine games so far this season, he already has 11 goals.
It might only be in Finland, but will it really be a much poorer league that the Scottish Premiership?
According to Finnish football follower Escape To Suomi, Morelos has all of the attributes required to make it in Scotland.
When asked about how Morelos might fare in Glasgow, he told us: “He’s quick, direct, provides lots of assists as well. Little bit of needle to him. Not the biggest but isn’t a weakling.”
Judging by clips online, Morelos’s diminutive stature isn’t likely to get deter him from taking on the strong and athletic centre-backs he’s likely to come up against in the Premiership.
It’s thought that Morelos will cost somewhere in the region of £1 million, or even a bit more, which isn’t exactly cheap for Rangers at the moment – but there’s every chance he’ll be sold n for a healthy profit.
At 20, there’s obviously a chance he’ll improve as a player and adapt to British football. Moreover, he’s a Colombia Under-20 internationalist, and if manages to break into the senior squad – alongside the likes of Radamel Falcao – then there’s no telling how valuable he could become.
What do you think of Morelos? Will he be a hit at Ibrox?
