Name a more exciting time of the year than when the new FIFA teasers start to emerge? We’ll wait.
In our fortunate jobs for talkingbaws.com, we got invited down to London for a FIFA 18 preview event ahead of the game’s release on September 29th.
And we weren’t disappointed.
Not only did we get to experience Stamford Bridge for the first time as it hosted the event, we also got the opportunity to be hands on with the game for a few hours – experiencing every new kick, tackle, header and celebration that comes with the new edition.
There were teething issues – as to be expected with an early version of the game – but we were more than impressed with what’s to come.
Here, we run through five things we love about the new FIFA 18:
1 – Cristiano Ronaldo running
EA Sports have introduced a new motion sensor system to building the game, which allows them to more accurately reflect the real-life movements of the players on a virtual platform. And while Raheem Sterling’s handbag holding running style being included is enough to make us stand up and applaud, we just couldn’t get away with how realistic Cristiano Ronaldo looks. By now, you’ll know the Real Madrid man is the cover star for this year’s game and FIFA 18 has done well to represent him in it. He runs, jumps, shoots and even moans like Ronaldo and there’s no doubt gamers will enjoy playing with him this year – even if he does sign for Manchester United!
2 – Match atmospheres
FIFA 18 has really taken match atmospheres up a notch with more realistic stadiums and fans. From a distance, it’s clear to see that the atmosphere looks more like what you’d get if you were at the game. The fans look more realistic – and they act that way too. The coolest feature for us is the way supporters rush towards a scoring player if he celebrates close to the barriers. After netting with Marcus Rashford at Old Trafford, I was in amongst the front row of fans and it really is a feature that brings the game to life.
3 – New sub option
Thankfully, you don’t always have to press start if you want to make a substitution mid-game as FIFA 18 has a new quick sub option that’s available during replays. The game recommends the best substitution based on fitness and you can do it in replay without stopping the game if it suits you. That should keep things fast-paced!
4 – The Journey is Back
Alex Hunter is back for the next instalment of The Journey – and, while this won’t make the impact of its debut in the game, it should still be very popular with players. Hunter’s career moves to the next stage and, with that, more famous faces make an appearance, including Cristiano Ronaldo. EA have been tight-lipped on what else will feature, but early suggestions have other leagues as playable, the potential of a girlfriend and more depth in his decision-making. Whether or not you’re a fan of The Journey, it’s too intriguing to ignore entirely.
5 – Ultimate Team icons
Ultimate Team players will be able to unpack some legends in this game after EA unveiled their Icons concept. So, Ronaldo, Diego Maradona, Thierry Henry, Lev Yashin and Pele will be available to play with. Good luck coming up against them in UT – especially when you’ve got a full team of Scottish players like we usually do!
