Arsenal Fans Are Paying Tribute to Per Mertesacker With Rumours German Will Retire

It looks like Arsenal captain Per Mertesacker is about to retire – and Gooners everywhere are paying tribute to the big German centre-back on a glorious career.

Still just only 32, the German World Cup winner is said to have become frustrated with constantly battling with injuries and the Daily Cannon are claiming he is on the verge of hanging up his boots but staying on at Arsenal in some sort of non-playing role.

Mertesacker managed just one full 90 minute appearance for Arsenal during the 2016/17 campaign but it was an absolute cracker, with Wenger throwing him into the FA Cup final against Chelsea last weekend.

The Frenchman had no other option other than to use Mertesacker but he used all of his experience and put in an excellent performance.

If he is retiring, what a way to go:

He wasn’t always the classiest or best player at the club, but it’s definitely fitting to see Pertesacker receiving the respect he deserves.
