Dom Solanke Follows Maradona, Messi & Pogba by Winning U20 Golden Ball

Dominic Solanke has joined the pantheon of world class footballers to win the Under-20 World Cup’s Golden Ball Award following England‘s triumph earlier today.

The junior Three Lions side managed to overcome Venezuela in a tense final this morning, with Everton’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin scoring the winner, and Newcastle goalkeeper Freddie Woodman saving a late penalty.

And although he didn’t score on the day, Solanke was awarded the prize for ‘playing the most outstanding football during the tournament’ following his four goals in the tournament.

The 19-year-old has just signed for Liverpool on a free transfer, and Reds supporters will be excited to hear the previous recipients of Solanke’s latest gong:

He might still have a lot to prove but that’s definitely not a bad lot to be grouped in with, is it?

Chelsea must be kicking themselves for somehow managing to let a player of this quality slip through their fingers.

What do you think of the award?
